As Canada's preeminent sports and entertainment complex, the Air Canada Center is an award-winning venue that hosts many activities and events throughout the year. As the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the complex is widely known by the local spectators as a first-class location to attend games and live concerts.
Opened in February of 1999, the Air Canada Center is a 665,000 square foot sports and entertainment complex that was built as part of downtown Toronto's redevelopment plan. The complex also includes office towers, restaurants, shops and other retail space. The complex is serviced by public transportation from the GO transit system, operated by the Toronto Transit Commission.
The Air Canada Center is not only the home of the Maple Leafs hockey team, but also the Toronto Raptors basketball team. The complex is able to seat approximately 19,800 for events and the theater can seat up to 5,200 people. The venue also includes 40 private lounges, 65 executive suites and 32 theater suites as well as 16 loge suites. The complex is handicap accessible and is also used for private events, community gatherings, concerts, arena football and many other events.
The Center also includes concession stands and kiosks as well as lounges and pub where guests can unwind with friends and get a beer or glass of wine. The complex is located in an area of downtown that offers plenty of parking for the facility. The complex has become a major addition to the city and has drawn a lot of business to other downtown shops and restaurants.
The Air Canada Center includes several clubs that offer their members exclusive privileges during events at the center. The Air Canada Club includes an upscale private dining room that offers a full wine list and plush interior decor. The dining room includes delicious menu items for members to enjoy during the events.
The Platinum Club is one of the most exclusive clubs in Toronto and features a first class dining experience with a room that includes a mother of pearl wall and ebony tables in an intimate dining room. The Hot Stove Club is the exclusive gathering of Toronto Maple Leaf supporters, originating in 1963. The club was one of the primary driving forces of the building of the Air Canada Center and continues to be staunch supporters of the team.
Because of the diligence of the community and investors, the Air Canada Center has maintained its impressive look and high profile image. The community takes great pride in their sports and entertainment center. The business owners and local citizens continue to be active in maintaining the complex and not letting it get run down. It is certain that the citizens and business owners are definitely happy with their sports venue.
